Boost your confidence with fun, hands-on activities that make public speaking and connecting super easy!About this Event
Playful Speaking
Playful Speaking is a confidence building workshop that includes : warm up games, public speaking, playful improv speaking style exercises and much more !
We are in Studio 318.
PLEASE NOTE - The class is now being held at arts ed school in Turnham Green, this is a drama school for 11-18 year olds , for this reason the staff are quite strict. I have to take the class up from reception as a group at 12:00, if you are late you will not be allowed go up to the studio by yourself and you will have to wait for a staff member to escort you (this is for the safe guarding of the children). A staff member will take you up to the studio if you're late but they may be busy so it's possible you could be waiting for some time. For this reason please aim to arrive early (Turnham Green/Chiswick) is a very nice area for a wander around. They are also strict with the bathrooms, the ground floor bathrooms are for adults and the rest of the bathrooms in the building are for the children, i cannot let you go through the school by yourself so please make sure you use the bathroom before the class starts, we will have a bathroom break around 50 minutes into the class.
Why did I start this workshop?
My philosophy is that, at some point in our lives, we’ve learnt that it isn’t safe to be ourselves in front of others and we don’t learn to be ourselves by learning how to stand, how to move our arms or how to walk on stage, the truth is you can’t learn to be yourself, because you already are yourself.
The real question is: why don’t we feel safe enough to be our authentic selves ?
The aim of this weekly drop-in class is to liberate you from your own social inhibitions. To get to a point where it makes no difference whether you are speaking to a close friend one on one or speaking to an audience of 20 strangers, imagine how powerful it would feel to get to that position, a position where the audience has no influence over how free you feel to be yourself and no influence over your nervous system at all.
If you're shy or anxious, don't worry. The exercises are adapted to each person's needs.
We build confidence gradually rather than forcing you into situations that overwhelm you.
I look forwarded to seeing you there !
James.
