About this Event
Open research promises to make knowledge more accessible, transparent, and inclusive. But who benefits from openness, whose knowledge is recognised, and which voices and ways of knowing remain marginalised?
This event brings together researchers and educators to explore how open research can challenge inequalities in knowledge production, while also considering how established academic systems, publishing infrastructures and research practices may reproduce colonial hierarchies. Co-chairs Dr Sakshi Ghai and Dr Miriam Tresh will bring a pedagogical perspective from their chapter, “How to… decolonise open science curricula”, in the book Teaching Open Science (published this year by Edward Elgar), and will lead the discussion with invited speakers on decolonising open research more generally.
Together, the speakers will consider what genuinely inclusive openness might look like across research, publishing, and education. The discussion will invite participants to reflect critically on whose knowledge they value, how they teach and practise openness, and what researchers and institutions can do to support more equitable forms of knowledge creation and exchange.
The event is open to researchers, educators, and research professionals from LSE and beyond. There will be a chance to ask questions of the panel from both in-person and online audiences.
Join us online, or in person in KSW G01. Those joining in person are welcome from 11.30 onwards; lunch will be provided!
