About this Event

In theatrical productions, the director not only works with actors throughout the rehearsal process, but also often serves as a central point of communication for the entire team. From producers and designers to actors, directors need to communicate effectively with collaborators across different departments while continuously navigating and making creative decisions throughout the process.

For this conversation, we’re bringing together three theater practitioners working in different roles to share their experiences from the rehearsal room and the production process. We’ll talk about how directors work with different members of a production, how responsibilities are divided across roles, and how directors communicate, coordinate, and make decisions to move the creative process forward.

Director as the Communication Hub | As the central point of communication within a production, what decisions does a director need to make, and how do they approach effective communication across departments?

Director × Creative Team | How does a director work with designers, dramaturgs, choreographers, consultants, and other creative collaborators? How are responsibilities divided, and how do different areas of expertise come together in the creative process?

Director × Producer | What are the respective responsibilities of the director and producer? How do they navigate budgets, practical constraints, and artistic priorities together?
