WILDER WRITERS: WORD OF MOUTH
Poetry is meant to be heard.
On Sunday, October 25, three distinctive voices take over Foy House for Word of Mouth, an afternoon of poetry, spoken word, storytelling and whatever happens when the microphone changes hands.
IF THE POET (Ian French) is a two time Canadian Slam Poetry Champion and internationally acclaimed spoken word performer whose journey into poetry became the subject of the CBC documentary IF the Poet. Funny, vulnerable and fiercely human, his work moves through love, mortality and the strange business of being alive.
SIMON OCCULIS is a poet, novelist and visual artist whose writing pulls mythology, politics, history and contemporary life into unexpected collision. Formerly publishing as Brandon Pitts, he is the author of several poetry collections and the novel The Gospel of Now.
NORMAN CRISTOFOLI is a poet, playwright and independent publisher whose work has moved through poetry, spoken word and theatre for decades. A longstanding presence in Canada’s literary community, he is the founder and publisher of Labour of Love magazine.
And then the microphone is yours.
Bring a poem. Bring a story. Bring the thing you have been rewriting for six months, or the thing you wrote on the subway on the way over. Read something unfinished. Try something new. Or come, grab a seat and listen.
