About this Event
Silk is lustrous. Silk-Dyes are vivid. The processes of silk-painting we will be using are playful and the results are always beautiful. The focus will be on reducing stress and increasing happiness.
In addition to being a veteran silk-paint artist, DurgaMata is an accredited Mindfulness Teacher. Founder and Director of Ultimate Stress Solutions CIC, her workshops all aim to strengthen inner peace.
Believing that we are all part of each other - and that peace begins in the hearts of each person, these workshops aim to make our world just a little bit happier and more peaceful, one person at a time.
Soulful creative activities are proven to reduce stress and improve a sense of wellbeing, and working with silk is especially effective. Beauty is uplifting. Creativity is satisfying.
Alongside the painting, we will practise some simple mindfulness and breath-work practises to make this an empowering as well as enjoyable afternoon.
In addition to this workshop DurgaMata runs a workshop every month in Kew, which is a 5-hour mini-retreat, Mindfulness-Joy Silk-Painting - and this combines Mindfulness, work on Personal Values, Forest Bathing, Silk-Painting to create a silk scarf, Live music for relaxation and reflection, a Visualisation on Oneness, Light, Beauty, Goodness and Gratitude - and a full vegetarian meal.
Her company Ultimate Stress Solutions is a Community Interest Company and this workshop, held on the last Sunday of the month (except August and December) is free for refugees. Most participants come from Ukraine.

A core belief is that this world is one. Everything is energy - or consciousness - (or to use religious language, God.) We are all part of That, part of each other and to ignore suffering is not a neutral act. It diminishes us and makes us less human - and it makes out world more cruel. It separates us from 'the divine.'
But we are not helpless. We can all, always do something to bring about positive change. Life is a series of opportunities and experiences to learn and grow and take action. We have power and we can choose how to use it. There is no neutral act.
DurgaMata also raises funds for some families who she knows personally in Gaza. Every penny raised through her card-sales goes to these families directly - no middle-men and friends can join their support-groups and chat with them directly on WhatsApp.
Below is a stall she held in Palestine House, selling her cards - all individually painted on silk all unique originals - with some of her silk scarves and shawls behind.
DurgaMata is a student of the spiritual Teacher Sri Chinmoy. She has been practising mindfulness and meditation for over 50 years.
She is an accredited Mindfulness Coach, providing a range of one to one services on a sliding scale, including weekly coaching-calls on zoom, with daily accountability support. She calls it 'Grandma walking with you every step of the way.'
She integrates Compassionate Inquiry (a trauma-healing therapy founded on the work of Gabor Mate) and also uses strategies for freeing ourselves from negative thought habits, developed by Daniel Amen.
