Biographies:
Ying Shan Hu (1999) was born in Maastricht in the Netherlands and began piano lessons at the age of six at the Music School in Heerlen with Alejandro Serena Llinares. In 2011 she became a part of the Young Talent Class at the Maastricht Conservatory, studying initially with Katia Veekmans and subsequently with Tonie Ehlen.
In 2017, she began her university studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy” in Leipzig, at the oldest music university in Germany, in the class of Professor Christian A. Pohl. There, under the guidance of Professor Jacques Ammon, she subsequently completed her undergraduate as well as her postgraduate degree.
Ying Shan is currently pursuing her Artist Diploma in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the guidance of Prof. Ronan O’Hora and Prof. Charles Owen.
In her youth, Ying Shan won first prize at the Princess Christina Competition Zuyd and second prize at the Steinway Piano Competition. She was also invited to participate in the Dutch TV documentary from AVRO TROS called “Young Talent: in Music”, performed in the Children’s Prinsengracht Concert, gave a solo recital at the Wonderfeel Festival in Amsterdam and performed several times as a soloist with orchestras in Spain.
During her studies, she gave successful recitals and chamber music concerts (both within the university and on international stages) and performed several times as a soloist with orchestras in the Netherlands.
Ying Shan performs as a soloist and chamber musician on numerous (inter)national stages and has performed in venues such as the Concertgebouw, the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, the Theater Heerlen, the Schumann House (Germany) and the Mendelssohn House (Germany).
She has gained lot of important musical inspiration during masterclasses with renowned pianists and educators such as Bernd Goetzke, Matti Raekallio, Antti Siirala, Konrad Elser, Enrique Bagaria and Michiel Borstlap.
Ying Shan is grateful for the support she has received from numerous organizations, including the VandenEnde Foundation, Nationaal Muziekinstrumenten Fonds, Fundatie van Renswoude The Hague, Dr. Hendrik Muller Fonds and Talent Unlimited UK.
