About this Event

Ariadna Rubio Lleó is a Catalan-Argentinian theatre maker, choreographer and performer. She grew up in Germany and has been working in the Netherlands since she was nineteen. In 2008, she graduated from the Mime Training Programme in Amsterdam and has since been working professionally as a creator, performer and teacher. As co-founder of the theatre collective Schwalbe, Rubio Lleó has developed a physical and exploratory approach to creation, focusing on the physical, on stamina and on group dynamics. In Rubio Lleó’s independent work, she navigates between association and precision, between camp and seriousness, with the performer always at the centre. Rubio Lleó appeared in the Belgian production German Staatstheater (2024–26), worked with Warme Winkel (2024) and is currently developing new work in collaboration with Lebelle/Frascati. In her most recent work, she explores masculinity, humour and transformative performance through her drag king persona, Johnny Tranca. Rubio Lleó enjoys working in unexpected venues and with a diverse range of audiences: from youth detention centres (Young Perspectives) and secondary schools (ITA) to queer young people (R.U.I.S.). In her teaching practice — both within the Mime Training Programme and beyond — she creates an environment of trust and playfulness, in which people dare to take risks, can explore their boundaries and develop their own artistic logic.
