Trods sin på alle måder kompromisløse og dystopiske musik strøg den afrofuturistiske aktivist, digter og musiker Moor Mother (Camae Ayewa) ind på stort set alle de større musiktidsskrifters årslister i 2016 - fra Pitchfork og Vice til Spin og The Wire. Sidstnævnte satte albummet "Fetish Bones" i top-5 sammen med David Bowie og Autechre, ligesom Jazz Right Now kårede albummet til årets bedste. I dag, ti år senere, er albummet stadig lige så banebrydende og brændende aktuelt.
Ingen lyder som Moor Mother. Med anarkistisk sindelag sampler hun alt fra Fugazi til Alice Coltrane, som bliver trukket ud og brudt op, og forvandlet til tætte, kompakte noise-landskaber. Et flux af lyde, der strækker sig over momenter af harsh noise til hastige lydinfernoer som hun rapper ubønhørligt over. Teksterne handler om det at være racegjort, underklasse kvinde i USA, om vold, sexisme og racisme. Som musikmagasinet Spin har skrevet om hendes musik, så er det "protestmusik, der faktisk kan give genlyd i det 21. århundrede."
Moor Mother er en bemærkelsesværdig, hædret kunstner og en radikal stemme, som ud over sit soloprojekt har sat dagsordenen med Irreversible Entanglements og 700 Bliss, og et væld af samarbejder på tværs af den alternative musikscene. Vi har tidligere haft glæde af Moor Mother på ALICE, hvor hun har spillet intime og hårdtslående koncerter for en fuld sal. Vi er beærede over at kunne præsentere hende igen når hun vender tilbage til november.

Hard-hitting protest music for the 21st century awaits when award-winning activist, poet and musician Moor Mother returns to ALICE with her noise montages and dystopian rap. She brings with her her legendary album Fetish Bones (2016), celebrating its 10th anniversary.
Despite its uncompromising and dystopian sound, the Afrofuturist activist, poet and musician Moor Mother (Camae Ayewa) landed on virtually every major music magazine’s year-end lists in 2016 – from Pitchfork and Vice to Spin and The Wire. The latter placed Fetish Bones in its top five alongside David Bowie and Autechre, while Jazz Right Now named it album of the year. Ten years on, the album remains just as brilliant and fiercely relevant.
No one sounds quite like Moor Mother. With an anarchic sensibility, she samples everything from Fugazi to Alice Coltrane, pulling sounds apart and reshaping them into dense, compact noise landscapes. A torrent of sound stretching from moments of harsh noise to frantic sonic infernos, over which she raps with relentless intensity. Her lyrics explore what it means to be a racialised, working-class woman in the US, confronting violence, sexism and racism. As Spin put it, her music is “protest music that can actually resonate in the 21st century.”
Moor Mother is a remarkable and widely acclaimed artist and a radical voice who, beyond her solo work, has helped shape the sound and agenda of projects such as Irreversible Entanglements and 700 Bliss, alongside a wealth of collaborations across the alternative music scene. We have previously had the pleasure of welcoming Moor Mother to ALICE, where she has delivered intimate and hard-hitting performances to a packed room. We are honoured to welcome her back this November.
