MAE MARTIN IN A SPECIAL CHRISTMAS SHOW ENTITLED

"MAE THE MUSIC BE YOUR HEALER"

Birdsong New Music Foundation's annual Christmas fundraising show, “MAE the MUSIC BE YOUR HEALER” will again be a night of incredible comedy, new music composed and performed by Birdsong Artists, and very special guests with our very own Birdsong Village Band of professional musicians.

The show will feature MAE MARTIN doing a set with celebrity guests. This year’s show will feature NEW Birdsong Artists: TAYLOR ABRAHAMSE (from Peterborough), BRENDAN McLEOD (The Fugitives: from Niagara-on-the-Lake), ARDENE SHAPIRO (from Toronto), ERIC BJARNASON MARTIN (from Hamilton), with singer TRACEY GALLANT and returning artists ROBERT PRIEST (Toronto), ALLAN KINNEY (Ottawa), EARL JOHNSON (Moxy, TRIBZ: from Ajax), with Juno-winning singer ERROL STARR FRANCIS, with the Birdsong Village Band. Music Director and bass player BRYANT DIDIER; The band includes the following musicians: Earl Johnson (guitar), VEZI TAYYEB (Piano), ALLAN KINNEY (keyboards), SHELLEY COOPERSMITH (violin), AARON CATEN (drums), and ASHLEY BELL (back-up vocals). Executive Producers are: Margaret Konopacki and Patrick Dion for the charity.

Kensington Sound Recording Studio in Toronto was involved with the charity this year and Vezi Tayyeb was the music producer on 4 of the new artists.

The charity was established in 2018 by Margaret Konopacki in memory of her son David Martin, a musician who lived with bipolar illness, and it was created to help others like David publish new and personal music for the purpose of personal healing and creating hope and transformation, especially for those people who live with mental illness.

From Mae Martin, host and board member: this charity is important to me, and I believe music has the power to heal. My own personal journey taught me this.

Mae Martin is a comedian, actor, producer, writer, podcast host, and singer-songwriter. Mae co-hosts the hit GLAAD Media Award-winning podcast HANDSOME on the Headgum network alongside Tig Notaro and Fortune Feimster, also streaming on Hulu. Recently, Netflix announced its first-look partnership with Mae. Under the deal, Netflix will premiere Mae's next stand-up special while Mae will continue to develop new series for the streamer. In Spring 2026, Mae toured their new stand-up show THE POSSUM across North America, and they also hosted the 2026 Juno Awards broadcast live on CBC and YouTube around the world. Notably, Mae created, co-showran, starred in, wrote for, and executive produced one of Netflix’s most-watched limited series WAYWARD, which launched in September 2025 to critical acclaim. Mae is also known for their semi-autobiographical comedy-drama series FEEL GOOD, which they created, co-wrote, and starred in for Netflix, earning them a 2021 BAFTA TV Award nomination. Also on television, Mae won Season 15 of Channel 4’s game show TASKMASTER. Beloved for their comedy, Mae released the stand-up specials DOPE and SAP, with the latter earning a Juno Award nomination for “Comedy Album of the Year.” In 2025, Mae released their debut music album, I’m A TV, globally through Universal Music Canada. Mae also ventured into documentary work, hosting the CBC docuseries FLUID: LIFE BEYOND THE BINARY and appearing in Netflix’s OUTSTANDING: A COMEDY REVOLUTION. Their debut book, Can Everyone Please Calm Down?: A Guide to 21st Century Sexuality, was published by Hachette in 2019 to positive reviews.

Mae joined the Board of Directors for the Birdsong New Music Foundation () in Jan 2026 and will be hosting the third fundraiser at Lula Lounge this December 20 . Mae also self-published a book of their paintings, with all proceeds going to support Doctors Without Borders.

From Founder/Executive Producer Konopacki: “Nine years have gone by since the birth of this charity and we have arrived at a place where people listen and respect our message which is really simple; music can heal you and stigma has no place in our hearts. We produce remarkable music by remarkable Canadian artists. Music and love are the secret ingredients and I believe love always wins. This is a co-production with my son David Martin.
