About this Event
Let Me Not Forget: Memory Work As Strength invites participants to explore how everyday objects can carry the labor, resilience, and wisdom of those who came before us.
Participants are encouraged to bring an object connected to an ancestor, elder, or family story—a tool, garment, recipe, photograph, letter, piece of jewelry, household item, or other treasured object. Through guided reflection and generative writing, we will consider what these objects reveal about work, survival, care, sacrifice, joy, and inheritance. The workshop asks: What has been carried forward through our families? What stories risk being lost if we do not name them? And how can poetry become a practice of preservation? Together, we will write toward memory, honoring the strength embedded in the objects and stories that connect us to the past.
Memory is an archive. Poetry is the key.
Facilitator: Hiwot Adilow
