The National Archives and the Archives and Records Association are hosting an in-person Leadership for Recordkeepers Summit in central London. Both organisations are committed to developing recordkeepers’ leadership skills and finding solutions to workforce development challenges for archive, records management and archive conservation professionals.
This summit is part of a wider programme delivered by both partners to support the development of leadership skills. The programme feeds directly into the action plan for The Government’s new vision for archives in England, to ensure the sustainability of the sector by strengthening workforce capabilities and advocating for archives at the highest level.
The summit will celebrate leadership across the recordkeeping sector and provide delegates with the chance to understand better their current skills, improve their confidence and explore opportunities to develop their leadership.
The agenda will include a panel discussion with senior leaders, workshops for different career stages, and a cross-career exchange session. Refreshments and lunch will be provided, and there will be multiple opportunities for networking with colleagues.

12.15pm - Lunch and networking
1.20pm – 1 hour 30 minutes career-stage workshops run concurrently for early, mid, and senior-career professionals and facilitated by expert consultants. Delegates will participate in the workshop appropriate to their career stage.
3pm - comfort break
3.15pm - cross-career leadership exchange
4pm - closing remarks and sign-posting to resources
4.15pm - Drinks reception (non-alcoholic) and networking

Who should attend
The summit is aimed at practising recordkeeping professionals at all stages of their career, including archivists, conservators and records managers. When registering, please book the ticket type that most closely matches your career stage according to the below definitions:
Early Career: Perhaps you have 1-10 years’ experience in the sector. Examples might include those who have recently completed a professional qualification (or are working towards it) or are thinking about working towards ARA Registration. You might be in more junior roles, focused on developing more technical skills with limited management responsibility.
Mid-Career: You may have more than 10 years’ experience. You may have responsibility for managing staff, budgets or other resources. You actively continue with your professional development, and you might be working towards or have gained Registered Membership of the ARA.
Senior: You may have responsibility for a recordkeeping service, or may be in a role with a wider portfolio that includes responsibility for a recordkeeping service. You will have responsibility for leading the strategic direction of the service or you may be working with a range of organisations to provide strategic support around recordkeeping. You might be working towards or have gained ARA Fellowship.
Apply for a travel bursary
A limited number of bursaries are available to help cover travel costs to the Leadership Summit for delegates who have to pay for their own travel. Priority will be given to delegates travelling from outside London and successful applicants will be reimbursed after their attendance. Apply for a travel bursary.

This is an in-person event only. Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
The summit will be held in the Benjamin Lay Suite and Elizabeth Fry meeting room at Friends House.
