Join us for a panel discussion about what meaningful community involvement in research can look like.
To do this, we bring together different perspectives on community participation, co-production and the value of lived experience in decision-making.
The session will begin with Rachel Green, Director of the Ripple Project, a community led charity based on north-east Edinburgh, who will show how creative approaches to visualising complex data can make community knowledge more accessible and influential. 'Helen Berry, University of Edinburgh, will then reflect on the value (and valuing) of research co-production, drawing from research exploring how people and organisations in Scotland, across traditional silos or boundaries, are working with the idea. Finally, Neil Hume, University of Edinburgh, will draw on his experience in education to consider what participation offers beyond the formal outputs of a project, and whether the relationships, conversations and preparation involved can sometimes matter as much as the final product.
Our three contributors will be followed by a response from our discussant Andrew Paterson of SCDC., before opening up to audience discussion and Q&A.
