The Institute is delighted to host the book launch for Til Debt Do Us Part, a container of prose, poetry and illustration on UK family migration rules and their place in the history of the UK, published by 2026 IASH Public Engagement Fellow Dr Vanessa Montesi.
At a time when restrictions on sponsoring family members are weaponised to deter sanctuary seekers from travelling to the UK, and proposals to extend the time required to obtained settlement to 10, 15 and even 20 years are considered and tied to individual income, Til Debt Do Us Part gathers the voices of charity leaders, academics, artists, journalists, affected families and sympathetic members of the public to flesh out the real target of these measures and insist on the value of human connections, friendships and love. The launch will include an opportunity to get a copy of the book in exchange for a donation to the advocacy charity Reunite Families UK and a Q&A with Dr Vanessa Montesi.
This is a free event, which means we overbook to allow for no-shows and to avoid empty seats. While we generally do not have to turn people away, this does mean we cannot guarantee everyone a place. Admission is on a first come, first served basis.
