About this Event
We're teaming up with local nature expert Bob Gilbert to discover all the nature in the area surrounding the community centre.
As part of a much wider project called Tree Trails and Pollinator Pathways to help create almost 8km of green corridors in the area, this event will help us understand what insects, plants and bugs currently live in our natural spaces.
This will give us a great baseline knowledge, so we can see how much it improves over the next few years.
This event is for anytone who is interested in searching our garden for tiny friends, logging them on iNaturalist and finding out more about nature! No experience needed, we'll have brilliant guides to help us discover what lives in the garden. You'll need a smartphone to log what you find on the free iNaturalist app. Please download this before you arrive, if you can.
What is a Bio Blitz?
A BioBlitz is a biological survey that records all the living species within a designated area. It's often done as Citizen Science (i.e. done by the public) but can also be a highly skilled scientist based study. We're doing the Citizen Science version here, but with experts to help us identify what we see. The app iNaturalist is brilliant at helping to identifty all sorts of nature so there is no need to be a nature nerd to take part. You just need to have an eye for spotting insects and an interest in helping local wildlife.
We'll be repeating the BioBlitz each season, to see what is changing and whether we're improving the local biodiversity.
Which areas will we be looking at?
We'll focus on the community garden outside the community centre, a section of Tufnell Park Playing Fields, some tree pits on local roads and maybe a section of Foxham Gardens.

Whilst this event is outside, the community centre will be open for drinks, toilets, shade/warmth and rest. Please dress according to the weather, whether that's sun hats and sun tan lotion or a waterproof coat.
