About this Event
Join Toronto artist Marshall Jacklin for the debut piano and voice performance of his album A Start to Coming Back to Life. The evening will also celebrate the launch of the art book of the same name, which includes essays, poetry, and photography connected to the project.
Working in the tradition of artists such as Nina Simone, Rufus Wainwright, and Randy Newman, the project blends narrative songwriting, classical arrangement, electronic textures, and storytelling to explore themes of longing, recovery, masculinity, memory, and the quiet ways people rebuild themselves over time.
The performance will feature the complete album alongside reflections on the stories and experiences that shaped the work.
Printed materials from the project, including the magazine, essay zines, and sheet music collection, will also be available at the event, along with light refreshments.
