About this Event
Welcome to the Zimbabwean Singing Workshop with Bruce Ncube! Join us at the Birch Community Centre for an immersive experience in traditional Zimbabwean music and culture. Learn from the talented Bruce Ncube as he guides you through the melodies and harmonies of Zimbabwe. Whether you're a seasoned musician or a beginner, these workshops are open to all.
All Funds raised will go towards Helemu Primary School, Bulawayo in Zimbabwe and the Birch Community Centre.
After the Workshop you are invited to participate in the choir for the 1st part of the evening performance. This will also include slots by Spokojna ( Kora and Vocals) and Bruce singing with Mr Will on guitar.
Spokojna is the Polish word for calm and Holly and Teresa's beautiful vocal harmonies and kora accompaniment are often described as having a calming effect. Today, however, prepare to be uplifted and energised as you join them in songs from around the world.
About Bruce
My name is Bruce Ncube, I am a Zimbabwean born, UK based singer/song writer and composer. My music is inspired by my journeys, where I come from (Njube, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) the people I have met. I specialise in teaching traditional songs from Zimbabwe/ Southern Africa in 3 to 6 part harmonies. The songs and harmonies that I teach are emotionally charged and uplifting, designed to build participants' confidence with singing. My method of teaching is in the traditional oral/aural way; reminiscent of when people would gather around a fire in the evenings, or whilst working in the fields and start weaving harmonies. The workshops are inclusive and participatory and one does not need to be experienced in singing to take part in them.
