About this Event
*17:00 - 18:30 in Mozambique*
Summary
In recent years, a series of impactful Tropical Cyclones (TCs) have made landfall in Mozambique. Researchers from the University of Bristol and Eduardo Mondlane University have been investigating the impact of climate change on Tropical Cyclones in the region, as well as early warning systems, disaster risk reduction and adaptation options. The research project, REPRESA, includes a deep dive interaction in the city of Beira, central Mozambique, which is highly exposed and impacted by TCs. Meanwhile, Bristol link with Beira (BLB) have been working on climate change preparedness with local communities in the city, building on the long term collaboration between Bristol and Beira. BLB also worked with NGO partners in Beira, including ADEL Sofala, to support communities following Cyclones Idai (2019) and Freddy (2023).
On Wednesday 2nd December, the REPRESA project and Bristol link with Beira will jointly present a hybrid seminar, to share research findings and practical actions to enhance climate resilience in Beira. The seminar will include in person and on-line presentation from researchers and practitioners in the UK and in Mozambique, followed by a panel discussion.
