Clay Time in Highgate
Theme: Touch, Terrain, and Material Roots
Draw with clay not only on paper. Here, making begins with the ground beneath us. In this tactile session, you are invited to shape, press, and mark clay in response to what we hold dearly, working between soft impressions and solid forms.
As you create, you’ll be encouraged to reflect on what belonging means to you. Using the clay, you will form a small token an object that represents something you hold dear: a place, a memory, a person, or a feeling of connection. Through this act of making, the material becomes a bridge between inner experience and shared environment.
By working with clay, we explore how creative practice can root us in place connecting hand to landscape, and individual stories to a collective sense of belonging.
Clay Time a not-for-profit community interest company, welcoming individuals and groups of all ages and skill levels. Their studio is a space to enjoy creating and painting with clay and ceramics, whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced maker. Alongside open studio sessions, they run regular classes and workshops for children (after school and during holidays) and for adults (evenings), covering beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. You can learn hand-building techniques as well as throwing, including pinch, coil, and slab methods.
Bring your own sketchbook and pencil and clothes that can deal with a bit of clay.
