Founded in 1872, the Royal School of Needlework (RSN) is the international centre of excellence for the art of hand embroidery. For over 150 years, the RSN has preserved and championed embroidery through education, conservation and some of the most prestigious embroidery commissions in the world.
This talk will explore the history of the RSN, from its Victorian beginnings to its role today as a globally recognised charity based at Hampton Court Palace. Along the way, you'll discover how embroidery has evolved, the people who have shaped the organisation, and how the RSN continues to keep these remarkable skills alive.
The talk will also look to the future, exploring how the RSN is reaching new audiences through education, digital learning and creative partnerships, ensuring that hand embroidery remains relevant and accessible for generations to come.
We are particularly excited that this event marks the first partnership between the Royal School of Needlework and Buxton Crescent, and we look forward to sharing the RSN's story in such a beautiful and historic setting.
