About this Event
Join us as Prof Karl Cordell discusses The Rise of the AfD and the Future of Germany on Thursday, 26 November 2026 (7.30pm) at the Plymouth Athenaeum.
The AfD is a far-right, right-wing populist, national conservative, and in parts völkisch nationalist political party in Germany. It has 151 members in the Bundestag and 15 members of the European Parliament. It is the largest opposition party in the Bundestag and a member of the Europe of Sovereign Nations Group in the European Parliament.
Established in April 2013, AfD’s co-leaders are Tino Chrupalla and Alice Weidel. In September the AfD fell three seats short of a majority in September’s regional elections in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt.
Karl Cordell is Emeritus Professor in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business at the University of Plymouth, and a renowned expert on Ethnopolitics.
