About this Event
The Listening Room is a one-hour in-person gathering for anyone who is remembering someone — a parent, a partner, a friend, a child, anyone you’re holding in your heart.
Once a month, a small group of people come together to share one song that connects them to someone they’re grieving.
How does it work? You bring a song. Not necessarily a sad one. It may be the song your mom played every time she cleaned the house, or the one your best friend had on repeat that summer, or the artist your dad wouldn't stop talking about even though no one else in the family got it. You take a few minutes to tell the room a little about who you're missing and why you chose it. Then we play the song, all the way through, and everyone just... listens.
No advice. No processing. No worksheets. After the song ends, we sit with it for a moment, before moving to the next person.
The songs people bring are never what you'd expect. Classic rock anthems. Reality TV theme songs. Embarrassing pop songs that were somehow perfect for the person they're honoring. Songs that make everyone laugh before they make everyone cry. Songs that capture something about who that person really was in a way that a eulogy rarely gets to.
You don't have to share to come. You can sit with your person quietly while others share theirs. That's enough.
This isn't therapy. It's just a room where people who are missing someone can say, for an hour: they were real, they had a song, and we haven't forgotten them.
Everyone is welcome. Bring whoever you're missing.
Thanks to the genrosity of our donors, this group is provided free of charge. A $5.00 suggested donation is appreciated.
