⭐️AUDITION TIMES
- December 1st/ Tuesday: Evening
- December 6th/ Sunday: Midday, early afternoon
⭐️DATES REQUIRED
- Rehearsal period (approx. 1st March- 13th May)
- Show Season (14th-29th May) at The Rose Centre
⭐️EXPERIENCE NEEDED
You don't need any tap or acting experience to audition. Just a willingness to give it a go!
We have a dance teacher who will be assisting the cast for the production.
⭐️SYNOPSIS
A group of beginners meet each week for tap-dancing lessons led by Mavis, a former professional dancer. As they stumble toward a charity performance, friendships form and the class members' private struggles and differences bubble to the surface.
⭐️CHARACTERS
Mavis: Female, 30-40 yrs
- Teacher/ex-pro dancer: Considerate, organised and always obviously in charge of the group
- Desirable: proficient tap-dancer
Mrs.Fraser: Female, 60+
- The class pianist: Intolerant, sarcastic, grumpy, believes she is doing everyone a favour just by being there.
- Desirable: able to play the piano
Dorothy: Female, 25-45 yrs
- Dance Student: Small, anxious, birdlike, habit of repeating other people’s last words… people’s last words.
Lynne: Female, around 25
- Dance Student: Eager to please, understatedly pretty, never wears make-up, a student nurse.
Maxine: Female, 30-40 yrs
- Dance Student: Confident, attractive, businesswoman, flashy.
Andy: Female, 25-35 yrs
- Dance Student: Small, timid, bullied by her husband.
Sylvia: Female, 25-40 yrs
- Dance Student: Short, bubbly, flirty! Chews gum all the time.
Rose: Female, 30-50 yrs
- Dance Student: Larger than life, crucifix around her neck and lots of finger rings.
Vera: Female, 45-60 yrs
- Dance Student: Neat, proper, snobbish, but well-meaning, expensive tastes in clothes (but doesn’t quite get it right), immaculate hair & make-up aspiring middle-class.
Geoffrey: Male, 45-60 yrs
- Dance Student: Shy, quiet, honest, a bit bumbling, widower, has a crush on Andy.
- Desirable: able to play the piano
