About this Event
Soane and the City offers a unique opportunity to learn about Sir John Soane’s finest and best-preserved grade 1 listed church, nestled in Walworth near the Elephant & Castle, and to support their ambitious National Lottery Heritage Fund capital project Building Beyond: Soane Reimagined.
This project will see the comprehensive conservation and opening up of Sir John Soane’s masterpiece in a huge variety of ways: architectural restoration, accessibility in every sense, transformation of St Peter’s into a local cultural and heritage hub, and a suite of activities to strengthen existing relationships and welcome new communities to experience this stunning building.
Expect a beautiful evening in Drapers’ Hall with food and drink, centred on the breathtaking newly-refurbished Livery Hall (one of London’s largest and most beautiful interior spaces, generally closed to the public), with speakers Will Gompertz (Director) and Helen Dorey MBE (Deputy Director and Inspectress) from The Sir John Soane Museum.
There's a chance to hear details of the restoration and transformation from the project architects and others, and to learn about the hidden gem of St Peter’s Church in Walworth from the experts and people who call it their spiritual home, and also to see Jonathan Yeo’s stunning new portrait of King Charles (a Draper himself) which lives in the hall.
Ticket price includes food and drinks served throughout the evening
