About this Event
Join us at the Cultural Hub of the Embassy of Mexico in the United Kingdom for a special conversation exploring the life, work and enduring legacy of Juan Rulfo, one of Mexico’s most influential literary figures.Presented as part of the Day of the Dead celebrations, this event accompanies the traditional altar created by the City of Zapopan, Jalisco, in tribute to the celebrated Mexican writer.
Marking the 40th anniversary of Rulfo’s death, the altar honours his extraordinary contribution to Mexican and international literature, as well as his lasting connection to the cultural heritage of Jalisco.Led by Lucy O’Sullivan, an academic specialising in Mexican literature, the session will explore Rulfo’s literary universe, his distinctive narrative style and the cultural and historical landscapes that shaped his writing.
It will also consider the continuing relevance of his work and its resonance with readers across generations and borders.Bringing together literature, cultural heritage and one of Mexico’s most significant traditions, this event offers a unique opportunity to discover or revisit the work of Juan Rulfo in the evocative context of Día de Muertos.
