About this Event
Step into the world of Vitrum Veritas and spend six weeks exploring the traditional techniques of jewellery making in an intimate, hands-on studio environment.
This course is designed for complete beginners who would like to go beyond a one-off workshop and develop a genuine foundation in jewellery making. Over six sessions, you'll learn a range of techniques while creating your own pieces, experimenting with materials and gradually developing the confidence to design and make jewellery of your own.
From your very first piece of silver to carving your own designs in wax, each session builds on the last, giving you the opportunity to learn at a relaxed pace and discover what kind of jewellery maker you might become.
No previous experience is required. All tools, materials and guidance are provided.
What you'll learn
Week 1 — Make a Silver Pendant
Begin your jewellery-making journey by creating your own sterling silver pendant. You'll learn how to transfer a design onto silver, saw and shape the metal, refine the edges and finish your piece. Choose from a selection of designs or create something of your own. You'll leave your first session with a finished silver pendant to wear and enjoy.
Week 2 — Make a Silver Ring
Learn the fundamentals of forming and soldering silver as you create your own ring. You'll practise measuring, shaping, soldering, filing and polishing before finishing your ring by hand.
Weeks 3 & 4 — Discover Wax Carving
Move from sheet and wire into the world of wax carving. Over two sessions, you'll learn how to work with jeweller's wax, exploring carving, shaping and texturing techniques to create a three-dimensional form. These sessions will introduce you to one of the most wonderfully expressive parts of jewellery making — where you can sculpt a piece almost as you would a tiny work of art.
Weeks 5 & 6 — Texture & Your Own Project
In the final two sessions, you'll explore different ways of adding texture and character to metal before putting your new skills into practice. You'll have the opportunity to develop and work on a small jewellery project of your own, with guidance and support throughout the process. This is your chance to experiment, solve problems and begin developing your own creative voice.
