Senate Square Society presents a screening of While the Fire Keeps Burning... (2026), a new two-part documentary essay by filmmaker Grigory Amnuel, followed by an in-person Q&A with the director.
Produced by EuroASK Poland with international participation, the 105-minute film examines the influence of politics on culture—and culture on politics—across different periods of Russian and European history. Moving between Russia and emigration, past and present, it considers Poland, the Baltic states, Afghanistan, Chechnya, and other historical wounds that preceded Russia’s war against Ukraine. Through conversations and archival material involving writer Mikhail Shishkin, artist Igor Bitman, filmmaker Krzysztof Zanussi, and other prominent cultural figures, the film opens a wide-ranging discussion about power, culture, war, memory, and exile.
The production team consisted of political émigrés and people displaced by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Following the screening, Grigory Amnuel will answer questions and discuss the film with the audience.
The film is in Russian with English subtitles and titles.

Созданный EuroASK Poland при международном участии, 105-минутный фильм исследует влияние политики на культуру — и культуры на политику — в различные периоды российской и европейской истории. Обращаясь к России и эмиграции, прошлому и настоящему, фильм размышляет о Польше, странах Балтии, Афганистане, Чечне и других исторических ранах, ставших предвестниками войны России против Украины. Опираясь на беседы и архивные материалы с участием писателя Михаила Шишкина, художника Игоря Битмана, режиссёра Кшиштофа Занусси и других известных деятелей культуры, фильм открывает широкий разговор о власти, культуре, войне, памяти и изгнании.
Съёмочная группа состояла из политических эмигрантов и людей, вынужденных покинуть свои дома из-за агрессии России против Украины. После показа Григорий Амнуэль ответит на вопросы и обсудит фильм со зрителями.
Фильм демонстрируется на русском языке с английскими титрами и субтитрами.
