Build practical responsible AI foundations for councils and NFPs, with simple tools for safe use, privacy, human oversight, and next steps.
About this Event

Move from AI curiosity to safe, practical use with clear boundaries for your council or NFP.

Councils and NFPs work with community information, public responsibilities, and limited resources. That makes it important to understand where AI can help, what needs protection, and when human judgement must remain in control.

This practical two-hour workshop gives WA councils and NFPs a clear starting point for using AI responsibly, without unnecessary jargon or technical complexity. You will explore common workplace scenarios, identify safer ways to begin, and develop practical guardrails your team can use.

Who this is for

This session is designed for:

  • Council elected members and officers
  • Council executives and managers
  • NFP leaders and managers
  • Community programme leads
  • Teams beginning to explore AI
  • Professionals responsible for privacy, governance, or service delivery

No previous AI experience is required.

What we will do together
  • Understand responsible AI basics: Explore what responsible AI means in practical council and NFP settings.
  • Decide what is safe to try: Use realistic scenarios to assess when an AI use case is appropriate, needs safeguards, or should not proceed.
  • Protect community information: Identify the types of personal, confidential, or sensitive information that should stay out of AI tools.
  • Keep human judgement in control: Consider where people need to review, approve, or make decisions rather than relying solely on AI-generated outputs.
  • Plan your next steps: Identify a practical starting point for responsible AI integration within your organisation.

What you will take home
  • An “Is This Safe?” AI Decision Sheet
  • A Community Data and Privacy Checklist
  • Practical Responsible AI Guardrails
  • A clear Next-Step Pathway with WA AI Hub

Good to know

Please bring your laptop for the practical activities, although no specific AI tool or account is required. You may bring general examples of workplace tasks or challenges, but do not use confidential, personal, or sensitive community information. No technical background is required. This is a practical professional development workshop and does not provide legal, privacy, or compliance advice.
