Processing Community Day @ Atlanta | CTR Culture Studios

PCD @ Atlanta is Atlanta’s first Processing Community Day, a free gathering celebrating creative coding, digital art, and community. The event brings together artists, programmers, students, and curious beginners for a day of workshops, artist talks, collaborative coding, and conversation. Processing Community Day is a global initiative of the Processing Foundation that encourages local communities to explore open-source creative tools such as Processing and p5.js while making programming more accessible to people of all backgrounds and experience levels.

The Atlanta event will feature an introductory p5.js workshop led by Jordan Oleson-Graves, a Pepper’s Ghost workshop with Laila Jhané, and artist talks by Ivan Reyes and Hannah Hendricks. Throughout the afternoon, attendees can also visit an open coding lounge hosted by artist and technologist Eddie Farr, where participants are invited to experiment, collaborate, work on projects, or simply spend time with other members of Atlanta’s creative technology community.

PCD @ Atlanta will be held at the Fulton County Public Art Futures Lab at The CTR, formerly the CNN Center, in downtown Atlanta. The venue is accessible by MARTA, has nearby parking, elevator access, and ADA-compliant facilities.

Intro to p5.js workshop

10:20 a.m. - 11:50 a.m.

p5.js is a beginner-friendly JavaScript library designed to make coding accessible for artists, designers, and educators, treating the web browser as an interactive canvas. Whether you’re an artist who has never written a line of code or a developer looking to experiment with visual art, this workshop is for you! We’ll cover the fundamentals of drawing with math, mapping colors, and driving visuals with mouse movement and keyboard input. You’ll walk away with a live, interactive browser sketch and a solid foundation to keep building your own computational art.

Peppers Ghost Workshop

1:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.

Hands-on workshop teaching the classic Pepper's Ghost optical illusion technique combined with modern AI-generated visuals.

Participants will build their own Pepper's Ghost installation and learn to create AI-generated content for immersive displays. This workshop is for artists, designers, and technologists who are interested in immersive installations and optical illusions.

Artist Talk with Ivan Reyes

3:00 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.

Artist, Ivan Reyes shares how he's integrating emerging tech such as AR/VR/Sensors/Generative AI into enterprise projects and public art projects.

Artist Talk with Hannah Hendricks

Artist and Curator, Hannah Hendricks shares insights around curating technology-based works.

Public Art Futures Lab at CTR Culture Studios
190 Marietta Street NW

The Public Art Futures Lab is located on Floor 3 of CTR Culture Studios. Please note that Floor 3 may be labeled “Secured Access” in the elevator. Event signage and staff will be available near the entrances at the beginning of the event to help guide you to the space.

Entering from Marietta Street NW:
Enter through the branded CTR doors at 190 Marietta Street NW. Once inside, use the elevator in the lobby and select Floor 3 / “Secured Access.” Exit the elevator to enter CTR Culture Studios and the Public Art Futures Lab.

Entering from Centennial Olympic Park Drive:
Enter through the larger CTR food court entrance. Turn right and walk through the food court toward Marietta Street NW/Centennial Olympic Park. After passing beneath the large open rolling door, you will see a glass office with glass doors.

For stair access, enter through the glass doors and take the stairs. At the top, the entrance to CTR Culture Studios will be on your right.

For elevator access, continue past the glass office until you see the escalators on your left. Just to the right of the escalators is a small hallway with an elevator. Take the elevator up one floor to Floor 3 / “Secured Access.”

Paid parking garages and metered street parking are available throughout the surrounding Downtown area. Availability and rates may vary, particularly during major events at nearby venues, so we encourage visitors to consider MARTA when possible.

The closest MARTA rail station is the Sports, Entertainment and Convention District (SEC District) Station, formerly known as the GWCC/CNN Center Station, at 100 Techwood Drive NW. The station serves MARTA’s Blue and Green Lines and provides walkable access to the Centennial Olympic Park area.
