About this Event
Preserve What You Treasure is an open community archive day inviting participants to bring personal and family materials to be digitally preserved through scanning and photography.
Whether you have a single treasured photograph or a small collection of documents, this event offers an accessible introduction to personal archives, family history, digital preservation, and community memory.
Participants will have the opportunity to create digital copies of their materials while learning simple practices for organizing, labeling, storing, and preserving family records.
We'll also talk about why everyday objects and documents matter to public history - and how personal collections can preserve stories that may never appear in institutional archives.
You keep your original materials and receive digital copies of what is scanned or photographed.
No formal archive is required.
Bring the things your family has saved simply because someone knew they mattered.
What to bring:
Please bring photographs, letters, recipes, certificates, programs, newspaper clippings, family documents, or other materials you'd like to preserve.
To participate, you should have access to either:
- an online folder where your digital files can be transferred, or
- a USB drive.
Small USB drives will also be available for purchase on site.
