The 14th Americas Latino Eco Festival narrows to a single organ: the lungs. ALEF XIV Aire Limpio: A People’s Roadmap for Clean Air unfolds across Earth Month, April 1–30, 2027. It begins with breath. The RESPIRA community asthma academy opened October 26, and on November 16 the people this campaign is about gather to build the Summit themselves.
In three working hours, stakeholders across the four drivers of what fills Colorado lungs (ozone, oil and gas, radon, and data centers) will design the April 8th Clean Air Summit and draft proposal for the table of contents of the People’s Roadmap, the document the Summit will finish and the festival's clean air campaign will act on.
Who should come: community leaders and promotores, clinicians and researchers, teachers, environmental justice advocates, relevant city and state agency staff
Why now: nearly a million Colorado children live where the air earned a failing grade. Puerto Ricans carry the highest asthma rate of any U.S. group, 14 percent, a number the word “Latino” on a public health chart erases. In north Denver, Commerce City, and Adams and Weld counties, families breathe more toxic air than 98 percent of the state. And diesel generators for data centers are being permitted next to clinics and parks faster than a family can learn what a nitrogen oxide is. That gap is the reason this convening exists.
