This workshop explores CI as an experiential art practice and research in “biomechanical poetics”: using articulate exploration of physics to support the experience of the ineffable.
Technical work builds functional awareness of self and partner, weight, structure and mechanical flow, drawing on Passive Sequencing, a release-based approach to CI. We start slow and heavy, working with gravity rather than against it, and gradually move into shared weight, shifting speeds, and play with the floor and the air. From a calm, relaxed presence we find fluid motion and soft power.
Poetic exploration treats “poetry” as a metaphor for creativity in improvisation. We dive into felt sensation, curiosity and imagination, shaping physical narratives and finding different “physical voices” in the small details of sensation and response.
Grounded in training exercises from Body Research Physical Theater. Mind work, body work, and some sweat.
Open level, for the physically curious.
