About this Event
🎤 PHILLY, YOU HAVE THE MIC
Voting, Issues & Accountability
Presented by Affirmations for Black Men in partnership with Black Men Heal.
What’s helping our communities? What isn’t working? And what do we want our elected leaders to hear?
Join us October 15 at Plant & People for an intimate, nonpartisan community conversation about the issues affecting our neighborhoods and what civic engagement can look like before and after Election Day.
This time, the community becomes the panel.
We’re bringing together nonprofit leaders, community organizers, service providers and engaged residents in a circle of conversation. Everyone has an opportunity to contribute, and you’re welcome to come simply to listen and learn.
💬 WHAT DOES YOUR COMMUNITY NEED?
Together, we’ll discuss:
• Community priorities, including housing, schools, mental health and youth programs
• Legislation and public funding that are helping or falling short
• Barriers that keep residents from participating in elections and government
• What meaningful accountability from elected officials looks like beyond election season
• How community organizations can help residents stay informed and engaged
No policy expertise is required. Bring your experiences, questions and specific examples.
🗳️ GET INFORMED. GET ENGAGED.
We’ll share nonpartisan voter registration resources and discuss how to find ballot information relevant to your district. This conversation welcomes different perspectives and does not endorse any political party or candidate.
🎥 LET YOUR VOICE REACH BEYOND THE ROOM
One question we’ll ask:
“If an elected official watched this tomorrow, what would you want them to know about the community you serve?”
With your permission, we may feature your response and clips from the discussion on @affirmationsforblackmen, bringing community priorities to elected officials, organizations and residents beyond the event.
Recording is optional. You can participate without being featured.
🤝 STAY TO CONNECT
The final 30 minutes are dedicated to networking. Meet neighbors, exchange ideas and connect with people working to strengthen our communities.
Facilitated by Nicole Glass, creator of Affirmations for Black Men, alongside Black Men Heal.
