CPD and Networking Event: 4 hours Formal CPD
We are delighted to host the RICS Western Australia CPD afternoon on Thursday 5th November.
Organised by the RICS WA Member Engagement Group, the afternoon will provide 4 hours formal CPD as well as an opportunity to networking with other professionals across all disciplines.
This event counts as 2 hours CPD under the WA Real Estate and Business Agents (General) Regulations 1979.
With a focus on the local market, our guest speakers will deliver sessions applicable to all professionals involved in the real estate industry in Perth. RICS will also host a stay informed session.
The event will be followed with an opportunity to network as well as an optional post conference dinner.
The WA Commissioner for Consumer Protection has approved ‘RICS Australasia Pty Ltd’ as an approved CPD Training Provider under the Real Estate and Business Agents (General) Regulations 1979.

Property & Asset Valuations Market Update
Matt Garmony and Richard Blow will present on a range of property & asset valuation matters.
Matt from Garmony Property Consultants will present on the new Capital Gains Tax (CGT) changes coming into effect from 1 July 2027 from a property valuation perspective and provide and provide a brief overview of the WA property valuation markets in residential, retail, commercial and industrial over the last 12 months.
Richard from Asset Valuation Advisory will touch on the potential CGT implications that are likely to effect business tangible assets, such as plant & equipment assets and also provide an update on continued construction costs cycle, particularly for larger plant, equipment & infrastructure projects and how these are still continuing to affect the valuation of these large bespoke tangible assets.
Byford Rail Extension Project
Richard Christie and Blessing Joshua from Laing O'Rourke will take us through some of the key challenges experienced and how they were overcome to deliver this fantastic new transport link and new stations.
As well as extending the existing electrified network 8km further South, the Byford Rail Extension addressed the long-standing risk and inconvenience of having the at-grade rail line passing through the middle of Armadale by the introduction of a 1.5km multi-track rail viaduct. Two road bridges, three pedestrian bridges and an additional rail bridge were also constructed, contributing to the removal of five level crossings from this stretch of rail.
Perth Commercial Office Market Update
James Phelan from CBRE will provide an update on the Perth commercial office market, exploring current leasing trends, tenant demand, vacancy rates and the key factors influencing market performance and the outlook for the sector.
Expert Witnesses, Claims Consultants and the Responsible Use of AI
AI can now produce a 400-page claim in a day, and can pull an expert report apart in minutes. The person who asked AI to generate the claim or the critique rarely has to stand in the box and explain further. The expert, however, does.
Reuben Burns and Lee Armstrong of Versed Advisory look at the difference between the “clean” independent expert, whose overriding duty is to the tribunal, and the “dirty” claims consultant, whose job is to advance the client’s case. They also cover what can go wrong when the hats get swapped, and now how AI is helping (or hindering) that process.
To what extent, if at all, should AI play a part in each of these roles? Where do RICS have to be careful when offering expert advice that is, in fact, produced by generative AI?
