An evening with Ori Shalva, Canada's foremost Georgian polyphonic vocal ensemble, led by virtuoso traditional singer and multi-instrumentalist Shalva Makharashvili. Ori Shalva performs one of the world's oldest and most complex vocal traditions.
Step into a sound world rarely heard in North America: the spellbinding, millennia-old vocal polyphony of Sakartvelo (aka Georgia), brought vividly to life by Ori Shalva, a Toronto-based family ensemble led by Georgian-born virtuoso singer/multi-instrumentalist, Shalva Makharashvili. Praised for their "amazing harmonies" by CBC’s Eroll Nazareth, they transport audiences to the cradle of wine, where breathtaking harmonies and spirited rhythms are inseparable from legendary Georgian hospitality and toasting. Be ready, maybe glass in hand, to be swept away into a sonic journey of Sakartvelo.
About La Fabrique St-George Winery: Nestled in the heart of Vancouver's vibrant Mount Pleasant neighbourhood, La Fabrique St-George Winery invites you to embark on a wine journey like no other. We take pride in crafting exceptional wines right here in our cozy lounge, where unique flavours, created in ancient-style clay amphoras known as qvevri, await your discerning palate. We believe that great wine starts with the best locally-sourced grapes, so we handpick the finest fruits British Columbia has to offer – and trust us, they're truly remarkable. Our winemaking philosophy is simple: minimal interference. We let nature do its work, allowing our wines to ferment with only the naturally occurring yeasts. Think of us as grape babysitters, nurturing the purest essence of each grape varietal.
