About this Event
A beautiful walk introducing you to the world of foraging, wild foods and medicine. Learn how to safely recognise and identify local wild plants, herbs, mushrooms, fruits and trees. Start to open your eyes to the world around you and immerse yourself completely in nature. Experience for yourself the abundance of gifts mother earth spoils us with, and tune into the beauty and change brought by different seasons. Delve into long lost common knowledge of wild foods and herbs, and learn how they can be used for food or their traditional medicinal uses and prepare yourself to feel inspired to learn more every day.
Prior to setting out, there will be a briefing on the basics of foraging and safe practice. Then it’s off searching for exciting wild foods and herbs. During the walk we will introduce you to a number of edible species; giving you tips on harvesting, correct identification and possible look-alikes.
During the walk we will:
- Introduce you to the concept of foraging and support you through your first foraging adventure
- Introduce you to the local and seasonal wild plants, herbs, fruits and trees
- Introduce you to edible and poisonous mushrooms
- Share some traditional uses of plants for herbal medicine
- Teach you about foraging etiquette and ethics of conscious foraging
- Explain some of the key legislations and rules regarding foraging
About us...
We are self-taught experienced foragers and have at least 12 years' experience between us in mushroom and plant foraging. We really care about living in harmony and working symbiotically with nature, never taking more than we are giving back. Foraging immerses us in the natural world, and we come to know it, love it and seek to protect it. We will teach you how to forage consciously and sustainably and help you gain a new perspective of living like a hunter and gatherer in today's world.
Other important information:
The walk will begin at 12:00 in Brockenhurst, New Forest (exact location provided 24 hours prior to event). We will start with a small introduction and then begin the foraging walk. Although nothing is guaranteed when foraging, there is a great chance of being able to find several different species of mushrooms and edible plants on a single walk-in autumn season. Please expect to be walking around gently and on uneven terrains for a majority of the walk. Wear suitable clothing (including wellies/ waterproofs) and pack a rain jacket and a brolly in case the weather surprises us. Bring some water and snacks with you.
**Please let us know if you are bringing your child with you so we can ensure we do not exceed the maximum group size.
*This walk is for pleasure and education purposes only *. Please bring a notepad and a pen to help note down and remember some important information about wild foods and plants. Please note that you will not be collecting any wild foods to take home during this foraging walk.
