Despite decades of research and years of clinical guidelines pointing people with low back pain in the right direction for their care, many still end up with low-value care that can lead to more harm than help. This new book by Christine Goertz, Take Your Back Back: Whole Health Healing for Low Back Pain, is a healing-journey field guide. Part myth-buster, part back pain 101, part research review, part expert advice, part personal stories, and part instruction manual.First, the book gives the reader the information they need to understand low back pain and approach it from a Whole Health perspective. Movement. Sleep. Stress. Mental health. Social connection. These pieces of the story – the author calls them Back Factors – all matter at least as much as what’s going on in a person’s spine. From there, she walks readers through a wide range of treatment options for low back pain, from topical cayenne pepper to spine surgery.
