This picturesque village once drew Victorian icons like a magnet - poets, painters, celebrated authors, even royalty. Their stories are still here, waiting to be uncovered.

Join Sue Lowday as she breathes life into Bonchurch's most illustrious residents, revealing unexpected twists, hidden connections, and astonishing tales you won't find in any guidebook.

Along the way, discover stunning illustrations, rare photographs, and haunting melodies composed by a local artist with a surprising connection to two famous TV doctors. This isn't just a history walk - it's an immersive journey into the village's most spellbinding secrets.

All welcome - just bring curiosity and good walking boots.

Type of Walk: Linear

Start Location: Meet at the bench (& sign board) near the top of Bonchurch Shute, Ventnor, PO38 1NX

Finish Location: At the Beach, bottom of Shore Road, Bonchurch.

We walk down the 101 steps which is quite steep.

Pace of Walk: Gentle - This walk will follow a gentle pace.

Walk grade: Moderate - Varying landscape with more challenging slopes. Stiles and steps to be expected en route, suitable for anyone who is reasonably active.

Mobility level: Suitable for a person with sufficient mobility to climb a flight of steps but would benefit from fixtures and fittings to aid balance.

Facilities:

  • Rest stops
  • Toilets along route
  • Good walking footwear recommended
  • Takes in coastal scenery
  • Dress warmly, it can be chilly even on sunny days.
