As Canada marks Remembrance Day, join Borys Sydoruk for a special presentation exploring the experiences and contributions of Ukrainian Canadians during the Second World War.
Through stories and archival images, Sydoruk will explore this complex history and the Heroes of Their Day Pokrova icon, commissioned to honour Ukrainian Canadians who served during the war. Painted on wood from an ammunition box used in the present-day defence of Ukraine, the icon connects past and present experiences of war.
The talk will be followed by A Canadian War Story (2020), a 60-minute documentary by John Paskievich, tracing the Ukrainian Canadian journey from Eastern Europe to Canada and the battlefields of the Second World War.
