Spend the day learning to weave a traditional round basket from locally harvested willow.Find more info at: https://www.halfmoonbaskets.com/weekend-of-weaving-january-2027#willow-berry-basket
We’ll begin with a slath base, then build up the sides as we explore the foundational techniques of stake-and-strand basketry, including pairing, waling, and slewing. We’ll finish with a rod border and a wrapped-core handle.
By the end of the day, you’ll have a willow basket approximately 6 inches wide and a better understanding of how a willow basket comes together.
Working with willow takes some strength in the hands and fingers. Previous weaving experience is helpful, but keen beginners are very welcome.
