ABOUT SPEAKER

Sébastien Maheux is an outstanding Canadian bridge engineer, passionate about cable-supported bridges, whose technical excellence, research achievements, and professional leadership make him an exceptional candidate for the IABSE Early Career Prize. As a consulting engineer, he has led complex analyses and design efforts on major projects such as the Newark Bay Bridge independent check, seismic isolation design for the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge ramps, and the development of an innovative microwave-based ice detection system for cable-supported bridges. His earlier contributions include key design roles on the Houston Ship Channel Bridge and North America’s first cable-stayed swing footbridge. Moreover, Sébastien is highly regarded at IABSE and is actively involved as the Chair of the Young Engineers Committee, and with his many honors and accomplishments, he has been a leader and role model for many.

Sébastien’s academic background is equally strong, with advanced research in wind engineering and structural nonlinearities conducted at leading institutions across Canada and Europe. He was the recipient of multiple scholarships in recognition of his excellent academic record. He is also a dedicated professional leader, serving on multiple Scientific Committees for IABSE Congresses and Symposia.
