About this Event
The theme for Black History Month 2026 in the UK is "Honouring Our Communities," and this event will consist of talks from local community champions/businesses, to provide an opportunity for them to speak about their:
- Community activism/ business, and the impact of this on their local communities
- Promote their achievements and upcoming events, projects, campaigns and partnerships.
- Present their "asks" i.e. what could they benefit from e.g. donations, attendance to an event, sharing their work on social media, promoting their work, introducing them to valuable organisations etc.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to spotlight community activists, businesses or local heroes they would like to celebrate and highlight and network with one another over breakfast.
This event is delivered by Start Up Wandsworth which is a business support services designed to support aspiring entrepreneurs, start ups and established businesses to build their entrepreneurial skills and confidence, as well as giving them access to business information and resources.
We offer our members a variety of expert led workshops, 1-2-1's with a business manager , access to business resources, opportunities to trade and test business ideas, co-working and office space, networking events and much more. We also offer office and desk spaces in our business hub in Putney Library and York Gardens Library.
Members of Start Up Greenwich and Start Up Bromley are also welcome to attend the event.
About GLL Social Enterprise Accelerator Programme
The GLL Social Enterprise Accelerator Programme is a specialist business support offer designed to help social enterprises, co‑operatives and CIC organisations by offering a range of information, tools and support for those interested in developing or growing a social business.The programme aligns closely with GLL’s social enterprise and co‑operative values and builds on the success of GLL’s national Start Up services delivered through GLL libraries. We encourage social impact businesses to access support through Start Up Greenwich, Start Up Bromley and Start Up Wandsworth workshops and events which will provide support for the growth and development of social impact businesses.
