About this Event
An in-person event about the heritage heroes of the 1966 Florence floods, for people interested in this history.
About the event
On 4 November 1966, the River Arno burst its banks and flooded Florence. Thousands of artworks, manuscripts and books were damaged. Volunteers from across the world came to help; some of them became known as the Angeli del fango, the "Mud Angels". Alongside conservators, curators and librarians, volunteers rescued much of the city's cultural heritage. Many of their stories are still missing from Wikipedia.
Join us at the National Gallery for an afternoon of writing, editing and research to help tell those stories. We will add and improve Wikipedia articles about the people, objects and institutions involved in rescuing Florence's heritage, using archival and published sources.
No previous Wikipedia experience is needed. We'll show you how to edit, and experienced editors will be on hand throughout. Please bring a laptop and its charger, and create a free Wikipedia account before you arrive if you can.
