The return of the most awesome percussive band in the world right now...
"Few other bands possess the focussed, visionary insight and remarkable technicality of Goat in the modern world, and even fewer manage to make minimal music so compelling" - Boomkat
goat are a 5 piece band from Osaka, Japan using percussion, sax, bass, guitar and electronics to make precise, dark and groove-laden minimalist music.
Fusing powerful urban and tribal percussion with the avant-garde, their live shows are like nothing else - last time they played in Bristol (sold out at Strange Brew in 2023) it was a truly jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring demonstration of musicianship which we absolutely cannot wait to enjoy again.
Since their last performance they have only further cemented their mythical status with their 2025 live album 'Without References / Cindy van Acker'. A masterclass in precise acoustic practice and physical movement coordinated by Cindy Van Acker (a choreographer renowned for her meticulous stage direction and work with Mika Vainio) goat lay down super crisp commands and rhythmic geometries that manifest “dancing to architecture”. A real highlight of 2025, it has since been christened by classic remixes by Ricardo Villalobos that have exposed their work to new audiences and expanded their cult status outside of experimental realms and in into dance music circles.
'Perhaps the tightest band in existence right now [...] a devilish display of interlocking, pointillist drums newly gelled with the addition of harmonic, 4th world woodwind, brass and texture that will completely destroy you - especially played loud - huge recommendation if yr into anything from This Heat to Miles Davis, early Battles to Jon Hassell, Moin and Autechre. We’re deep in Album Of The Year zone right here. An absolute assault on the senses that will leave you feeling physically wrecked and spiritually uplifted, we really gotta say - nobody else is doing it like this' - Boomkat
In a parallel universe where the most innovative new music got the biggest audience this would be a roadblock! Let's see...
