The Film

‘Samia’ tells the inspiring story of Somali athlete Samia Yusuf Omar, who pursues her dream of participating in the Olympic Games despite difficult circumstances and societal restrictions. Growing up in Mogadishu as a talented runner, Samia is supported by her father in her athletic ambitions, while her mother is concerned about the dangers women face in sports. The film showcases Samia's unwavering determination, her passion for running, and her dream of one day standing on the Olympic stage as the fastest woman in Somalia. Based on true events, the film offers a powerful portrait of a young woman who fights for her freedom and dreams against all odds.
