Feeling at Home, Planning Ahead
Real conversations about aging, care and your financial future
“What if?” feels very different when it becomes your family’s reality.
This year, my dad moved into long-term care. As a daughter, I wanted him to have comfort, dignity and a space of his own. Our family chose a private room—and we were shocked by the monthly co-pay: $3,041.
My mom lives in an in-law suite in our home. Even with that reassurance, I found myself asking:
What if she still had a family home to maintain?
What if she were paying today’s apartment rents?
What if she needed care, too?
How would we pay for everything—and for how long?
What if. What if. What if.
These are questions families can find themselves facing while also coping with a diagnosis, a hospital stay or an unexpected change in someone they love. The emotional weight is already heavy. Financial uncertainty adds another layer.
That is why John Andrew and I are hosting this evening.
We want to create a safe, welcoming space to talk openly about the parts of aging that can feel overwhelming: where we will live, who will help us, what care might cost and how we can prepare.
You may love your home and hope to stay there. You may be wondering whether somewhere more manageable would make life easier. Or you may already be helping a parent or partner through a change you weren’t expecting.
Wherever you are in that journey, there is a place for you in this conversation.
Together, we’ll explore:
- Aging at home with support: the potential costs of housekeeping, home maintenance and private personal care.
- Finding a more manageable home: the practical and financial considerations of a mutli generational home, condo, apartment or retirement community.
- Planning for changing care needs: including an overview of long-term care costs and what it can mean financially when one partner needs care while the other still needs a home.
- Preparing financially: how your income, savings, investments and existing insurance may help support care—whether it is needed soon or years from now.
- Balancing care and legacy: exploring how to fund your needs while considering what you hope to leave for family, if that is important to you.
I’ll bring real-life experience and an overview of housing, support and care costs. John Andrew, Ph.D., Wealth and Insurance Advisor with True Life Insurance and Estate Solutions, Inc., will take a deeper look at financial planning for the cost of care, including options you may not have considered.
We cannot predict every change. We can give ourselves and our families a better place to begin.
Having these conversations now can give you time to understand your choices, share your wishes and make thoughtful plans. If you are already in the middle of a difficult situation, you are equally welcome. You do not have to navigate every question alone.
This is an evening for learning, listening and asking the questions you may have been quietly carrying. There is no expectation to move, purchase a service or make a decision.
