Domes of the “City of the Dead” | A Walking TourLed by Agnieszka Dobrowolska, Director of ARCHiNOS Architecture, this guided walk organized by the MASQ (Multicultural and Artistic Spaces at Qaitbey) explores the domes of Cairo’s Northern Cemetery, tracing their architectural evolution across the centuries.
The domes and other structures in the “City of the Dead”, where the tour ventures, are testimony to the events, people and historical circumstances that shaped the creation of their distinctive architectural forms. They are also pieces of engineering built of judiciously chosen materials to transfer loads and withstand elements. The tour will focus on the structural aspects of construction and conservation, offering new insights into little-known aspects of Qaitbey’s complex. The walk will act as an introduction to the lecture that follows at MASQ.
