Structural Assessment of Historical Monuments: The Journey from Qualitative to Quantitative Assessment. Application on Sarghatmish MosqueJoin us for a special lecture by Dr Sherif A. Mourad, Professor of Steel Structures and Bridges at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University.
Egypt boasts a unique collection of historic buildings. These monuments are subject to deterioration over time. Until the last century, the structural assessment of these monuments relied on visual inspection and the engineer's expertise (qualitative assessment). The lecture will present how, with technological advancements, it has become possible to create mathematical models that accurately represent the building's behavior.
Coordination among various participants in the assessment process has also assumed a crucial role. The structural assessment is based on multidisciplinary activities, starting with historical studies, surveying, architectural layout and detailing, geotechnical aspects, as well as material evaluation backed by testing.
