Dear Davenportageurs,
Everything is set to go for Saturday.
Here's the latest...
Portageurs should plan to meet at Etienne Brule Park at 11:45 AM for a start soon thereafter, hopefully! To increase your misery, bring a backpack containing ridiculously heavy non-perishable food items you can drop off at the Yorkville fire station on our way to the Don River. Below is a poorly annotated map making it difficult to locate the gathering point for the start of the portage. It is currently forecasting rain... optimal for those of us that love suffering!
Paddlers meet down at Cherry Beach, at the corner of Cherry St. and Unwin Avenue, at 7:00 AM (more precise location coming)... or if needed in the south end of the south-west parking lot at the Brickworks at 6:30 AM and we'll attempt to shuttle you down. [If you are bringing a canoe, please plan to launch at Cherry Beach and if you need assistance, don't hesitate to call me.]
Remember to wear gloves and layers of clothes, have snacks and water, and have something to put valuables in so, if/when your canoe capsizes, they don’t end up at the bottom of Lake Ontario! Consider bringing a change of clothes and shoes for the portage. The conditions are currently forecasted to be relatively calm, but we've heard that lie before.
If you are a runner, contact your shrink, and then plan to meet at the location below on Roselawn Ave., at the foot of the communication tower, at 3:50 AM. We will run past Sunnybrook Hospital so please try to delay any physical or mental breakdown until then.
Looking forward to another great Davenportage adventure!!!
