Who is in the room when you give birth matters.Black and Brown birthing people are still going into maternity services and not being listened to. The answer isn't one more leaflet. It's more doulas who look like the families they serve, and who know exactly how the system works. We're colouring in the landscape of birth.
WHAT THIS IS
A 4-day, in-person birth doula training with Abuela Doulas, facilitated by Nikita Akilapa. Nikita has been supporting families through the perinatal year for more than a decade. She brings Yoruba heritage to this work — and with it, an understanding of birth rooted in cultural knowledge that runs far deeper than any curriculum.
You leave knowing what a doula does, what a doula doesn't do, and how to hold that line in rooms that weren't built for the people you serve. The course price includes three masterclasses.
Anti-racism is not a session in this training. It is the architecture the whole thing is built on.
WHO IT'S FOR
Anyone who wants to train as a birth doula. No previous experience needed.
THE DETAILS
Dates: Tuesday 8 to Friday 11 December 2026
Times: 10am to 4pm each day
Where: Muswell Hill, North London. Full address sent on booking.

Investment: £1,600, including three masterclasses. Pay in full or in 5 instalments. Longer plans by arrangement.
Bursaries: Two 50% bursaries for Black and Brown trainees. Apply by 30th October 2026.

AFTER THE TRAINING
You complete a post-course project researching your own cultural background, in whatever form is yours: writing, art, film, poetry, song. Then an assessment session with Mars Lord, then your certificate. Every graduate gets a free listing on the Abuela Doulas directory.
