About this Event
Cross-stitch is perfect for absolute beginners and mindful crafters alike, with no prior textile experience needed and an all-in-one take-home kit included. Novices can hopefully finish a beautiful small project in one sitting, or take their materials home to complete it, while multi-tiered patterns will challenge more intermediate embroiderers.
In person at Shoe Lane Library.
What is cross-stitch?
Cross-stitch is a popular form of counted-thread embroidery that uses X-shaped stitches in a tiled, grid-like pattern to form pictures, text or geometric designs.
How It Works
X-Shaped Stitches: Each stitch consists of two diagonal crossing threads that form an "X".
Gridded Fabric: It is usually worked on open, even-weave fabrics like Aida cloth, which has visible, evenly spaced holes. Fabrics are measured by "count" (such as 14-count, meaning 14 holes per inch), which dictates the final size of the design. In counted cross-stitch, the stitcher follows a paper grid pattern and counts the fabric threads.
